Dress Code
Adobe Student Dress Code
Albuquerque Public Schools expects student dress and grooming to reflect high standards of
personal conduct. Students’ attire ought to promote a positive, safe and healthy atmosphere
within the school.
The Adobe Acres uniform guidelines are as follows:
Clothing Guidelines:
- shorts, skirts, jumpers, dresses must be mid-thigh or longer
- no holes in clothing should be above mid-thigh
- torsos may not be exposed
- shirts must not be see-through accessories jewelry, caps, headbands, scarves) can be worn, but would be taken if focus on learning was not in evidence
- Athletic shoes must be worn on days that students have PE. *mid-thigh would be measured by each student's fingertip to thigh.
- Failure to adhere to dress code:
- If inappropriate, the teacher will ask the student to turn the shirt inside out.
- All other incidents: Students will be sent to the Family Liaison for a change of clothes during morning recess.
- Students will be sent back to class immediately after changing.
- Family Liaison will contact the family to assess any additional needs.
Non-Negotiables for ALL Albuquerque Public Schools:
While each individual school may adopt its own dress code, no student in any APS setting may wear clothing that contains:
- obscene or violent language or images
- depictions of alcohol or drugs or other illegal item or activity
- racist content, hate speech, profanity or pornography
- accessories that could be considered dangerous or used as a weapon
Prohibited clothing and accessories include, but are not limited to:
- gang-related attire
- excessively tight or revealing clothes
- short shorts, skirts and dresses
- bare midriff
- low-cut and/or off the shoulder blouses
- spiked jewelry
- chains
- belts with more than two inches excess.
- "Sagging," or the wearing of pants below the waist and/or in a manner that allows
- underwear or bare skin to show, and "bagging," or the wearing of excessively baggy
- pants with low hanging crotches.
- Hair color, length, style, including hair coverings or styles related to an individual’s
- personal, cultural or religious beliefs cannot be considered for disciplinary action.
